Stuart Lennox
I’m wondering if, through your resources, you can find out if there is a 20th edition of Guinness British Hit singles and albums being published/available in 2007. I bought the 19th edition in late May of last year and have made 3 attempts to email the website (which is no longer functioning) and various searches on the web.
REPLY: Hi Stuart. You are one of many people to ask us this question so we have been in touch with the people at The Guinness Book Of British Hit Singles And Albums and they have released this statement to us. "Thanks for your enquiry. There will be no 20th Edition of the book of British Hit Singles & Albums until next year. There are a number of reasons for this, not least the situation regarding download singles. As you will know, The Official UK Chart Company changed the rules to allow download singles to compete on a like for like basis with other formats and enter the chart from the 1st of January this year. We would normally close for press at the end of a year and print the book in March, publishing in early June. Had we done so this year the book would have appeared rather dated without a single download appearing. At least when the book next appears the download situation will have bedded down and our readers can see a sizeable number making a contribution to the pages of the 20th edition and get a fully formed picture of this new innovation".

They also said that we could give out the email address for any further enquiries you may have so click HERE to email them now.

Wayne Bennett - Ashton-U-Lyne, Lancs
I am looking for the -B- SIDE of a track that was released in the late 70’s early 80’s, how can I find it on the net. Also why is Janis Ian- At Seventeen not listed in the seventeenth edition of the Guinness book of British Hit Singles, When it got to number 6 in 1975?
REPLY: Well you haven’t specified which track you are after but i-tunes have more than three million songs to choose from so they are your best bet.
As for the Janis track, we have looked into this and cannot find any track by this artist that has entered the top 75 since 1952. But why not ask the people that put together the Guinness book of British Hit Singles yourself. Click HERE to email them.

Michael Goulding - South Yorks
I would like to know the name of the person that sang on Cliff Richards Saviours Day....or Mistletoe and Wine...unaccredited vocals.
REPLY: We don’t know is the simple answer and our investigations have drawn a blank. We suggest you ask the die-hard fans of Cliff in his forum. Click HERE to enter.

I just wanted to drop you a line to thank you for your great Brit awards coverage. I was at work that evening and your rolling Brits review and automatic winners page were priceless. I was totally up-to-date with what was going on in a place where I had no radio or TV. Keep up the good work.
REPLY: Thank You James. It is always nice to hear some positive feedback and makes our hard work worthwhile. We are glad you enjoyed our coverage.

I'm trying to find a CD for my Mum, could you help? I have a code- it is peg CD 313 and its called 'Broken Hearted'
REPLY: Well we think we have tracked it down for you. We believe that the song 'Broken Heart' is by Bobby & Peg and should be on an album called Songs From Ireland. You may struggle to find this to buy though. We have had a quick look and can't find it anywhere. Good Luck.

Where can I get a list of the number 2 songs in the British charts for 2005 and 2006?
REPLY: You can go to everyhit.com and in the ‘Highest position’ box put in 2, then select the date. This could be quite time consuming so if you contact everyhit.com or The Official UK Charts Company they maybe able to provide with a full list of number 2 songs. Hope this helps.

Mike Clarke - Manchester
Hi please please can you help me, even though you will think I'm a very sad middle aged man. On to the point, when I was a teenager growing up in Manchester I had single called "THIS OLD MAN" by "THE PLAYGROUND" it was an American single done by kids hence the name playground it was north soul track which got played a lot in the clubs and at the casino in Wigan, I have hunted high and low on the net for this track but cannot find it please help me find it. Many many thanks. An ageing northern souler
REPLY: Well Mike we are sorry to report that we have drawn a blank on this one too. It doesn't appear to have charted so chart archive sites won't be able to help you either. You could try searchmuze.co.uk, an online guide to UK distributed music and video releases. You will need to register with the site before you can use their services though and they may not be able to help as it was an American single. If any of our site's visitors can help you though we would welcome their help and will pass it on to you. Sorry we can't help you as yet.

Wayne Hawke - Newcastle
Can someone please tell me who sings the theme tune to the BBC sitcom The Office. A friend and I are always arguing about it. She thinks it is Rod Stewart but I think it sounds like The Stereophonics. Please put an end to this argument now!
REPLY: The song in question is called 'Handbags And Gladrags' and was sung by both Rod Stewart and The Stereophinics. The track first hit the charts in 1967 and reached No'33 for Chris Farlowe. The song was NOT ever released by Rod Stewart as a single but was an album track. The Stereophonics got the song to No'4 in 2001. It is The Stereophonics version that is used on the sitcom The Office so Wayne you can tell your friend that you were right.

Brian - South Yorkshire
Who is the only artist to have 8 hits in the UK top 30 at the same time?
REPLY: Well were not sure if your asking us because you don't know or if you are trying to catch us out. Well you have caught us out and we don't know basically. If you also don't know either maybe The Official UK Chart Company can help. Click here to go to their site and let us know their response. Good luck!.

Tony - Cardiff
