GARETH DOCUMENTARY
On Saturday, ITV screened a documentary about fallen idol Gareth Gates. Gareth was filmed going about his private life and trying to make it big once again. Gareth spoke candidly about his feelings. He said that he owed Simon Cowell a lot for giving him his big break, even though it was Simon that took away his recording contract earlier this year. He said he isn’t sorry that they parted company as now he can style himself and release his own material that he has written. Gareth also spoke about his fling with Katie Price aka model Jordon. He said he that they had decided to keep their romance quiet and he was stunned when she sold her story to the press. He said he lied about the fling because he thought he had let his family down. His management company, 19 are still behind him and are trying to find Gareth a new record contract.

Festival goers have been left disappointed this week after it was revealed that it is very unlikely that Kylie Minogue will perform at Glastonbury in 2007. Everyone took it for granted that she would be there because she had to pull out of the event last year after being diagnosed with breast cancer. Sadly it has been said that her 2007 diary is too busy and it is unlikely that she can appear.

Last Saturday a new star was born as Leona became the first female winner ever on The X Factor. CONCERT FOR DIANA
Princes William and Harry have revealed to the media their plans to hold a massive concert next year in memory of their Mum Diana, who died in a car accident. The concert will mark ten year’s since Diana’s death and will be held on what would have been her birthday on 1st July. It will take place in the new Wembley stadium and will feature many massive acts. Elton John will be performing and said, if the Princes want him to, he would sing the Diana tribute version of ‘Candle In The Wind’ which he sang at her funeral and vowed never to sing again. 10,000 tickets will go on sale to the public and sadly ticket touts have already put some up on auction website eBay at hugely inflated prices. eBay have since removed the sale of these tickets. Other acts confirmed include Duran Duran, Bryan Ferry and Joss Stone with more to be finalised.

PETE CAUSES OUTRAGE AGAIN
Pete Doherty has been hitting the headlines again this week. People were outraged that his has been spared prison for a third time for possessing drugs. Pete was also quizzed by police this week after a man called Marc Blanco, that Pete was seen fighting with at a party, fell to his death from a balcony. The party was in a grotty East End flat but there is no suggestion that Pete was directly involved with the man’s death. The investigation continues.

Elton John branded him “a tosser” after reading the interview. Elton also said that Noel looks like Parker from the Thunderbirds. Michael Jackson’s first performance in the UK for years was branded a huge disappointment this week. He performed at the World Music Awards in London’s Earls Court. The MTV Europe Music Awards took place in Copenhagen on Thursday night. This year’s event was hosted by Justin Timberlake who opened the show with a performance. The African child, Davie Banda, that Madonna recently adopted was brought back to Britain to his new home this week. Children’s charities and a human rights group had been complaining about the adoption saying she is using the child as a fashion accessory. Madonna has hit back saying that after hearing the were over one million orphans in Malawi it was her wish to open up her home and offer escape of an extreme life of hardship to one child. MADONNA'S ADOPTION PLIGHT
The press this week was full of details about Madonna adopting an African child. It was confirmed that she will adopt a 13 month old boy called Davie Banda. Davie’s Mum died shortly after his birth and his Dad cannot support him. His Dad is said to be “so happy” that his son will be taken to a rich environment. The adoption has hit setbacks though. The release of Robbie Williams’ new album ‘Rudebox’ could be delayed due to a legal battle between him and his ex-boss Nigel Martin-Smith. Nigel is convinced that the song on the album called ‘The 90’s’ is a slate on him. Classical singer Russell Watson had an emergency operation this week to remove a brain tumour. Robbie Williams’ new album was thrown into chaos, this week, when his old manager threatened legal action over one of the tracks. Nigel Martin-Smith managed Take That in the nineties and him and Robbie never saw eye-to-eye. Nigel doesn’t want Robbie’s ‘Rudebox’ album released with the track called ‘The 90’s’ on it. The song penned by Robbie allegedly makes accusations about Nigel. He is demanding that Robbie removes the song from his new album or he will face legal action. The Mercury Music Prize winner was announced on Tuesday. This year it was won by Sheffield based band The Arctic Monkeys for their album “Whatever People Say I Am That’s What I’m Not”. TOP OF THE POPS FINALE
Tonight the last ever episode of Top Of The Pops was screened. The show has been the biggest TV music show for the last 42 years. It was launched by Jimmy Savile on New Year’s Day 1964. Due to falling audience figures the BBC made the decision to pull the plug on the show. Cliff Richard holds the record for most appearances with 160 and Status Quo the second at 87. The longest performance was in 2005 when Green Day performed their 9 minute version of ‘Jesus Of Surburbia’. Due to their young audience, show bosses banned Frankie Goes To Hollywood’s song ‘Relax’ and The Sex Pistols’ ‘God Save The Queen’. Most of the first ten year’s of the show have been lost forever as the BBC had a rule that all old programmes should be deleted from their tapes. Tonight’s final show featured old presenters including Jimmy Savile and archive memorable performances. The Top Of The Pops magazine, website and spin off shows will remain as they are.

MERCURY PRIZE 2006
The Mercury Music Prize nominations were revealed by Jools Holland, at the Commonwealth Club in London, on Tuesday. The nominations include The Arctic Monkeys, Guillemots, The Editors, Muse and Thom Yorke. The press complained that there was a serious lack of female artists in the line-up. Girls Aloud star Cheryl Tweedy married her footballer boyfriend Ashley Cole this weekend. This year’s Eurovision Song Contest took place in Athens, this weekend. This year’s winner was a rock group dressed as monsters called Lordi with a song called Rock Hallelujah. KEITH RICHARDS' BRAIN OPERATION A SUCCESS
Rolling Stones guitarist, 62 year old Keith Richards had brain surgery this week to remove a blood clot caused when he fell out of a tree. It was feared that he may never play with the ‘Stones’ again as his family kept vigil by his bedside. He was released from hospital, only to be rushed back to hospital four hours later. It is thought he will remain in hospital for several days more. A spokesman said the operation was 100% successful and denied that there is a risk of brain damage. The Rolling Stones have put back the start of their European tour in the hope that Keith will join them.

MATT TALKS TO THE SUN
Matt Willis, formerly of Busted, has spoken to The Sun newspaper about his breakdown after the band split at the start of 2005. NEW REALITY TV MUSIC SHOW?
News was unveiled this week about a new celebrity reality TV show that is in the pipeline. Music bands will be locked in pods on the famous landmark the London Eye to record a new album. George Michael was arrested last weekend on suspicion of possessing drugs after being found slumped at the wheel of his car in London. NME AWARDS
The NME awards took place on Thursday night and the Arctic Monkeys won three awards for Best New Band, Best Track and Best British Band. Ian Brown’s wish was granted. A few weeks ago he said he would only accept his award for ‘Godlike Genius’ if it was presented to him by one of Manchester United’s treble-winners of 1999. Award organisers got Teddy Sheringham to present the award. Backstage Teddy revealed he isn’t even a fan of Ian Brown’s music. Meanwhile the Sugababes wowed the crowds with their cover of the Arctic Monkey’s track ‘I Bet That You Look Good On The Dancefloor’. Johnny Borrell from Razorlight hired extra security after rumours that Pete Doherty, from The Babyshambles, would be there. Pete head butted Johnny at last year’s Leeds Festival. The biggest event in the British music calendar took place on Wednesday night in Earls Court 2 in London. The event was hosted by Chris Evans for a second year running and included performances from The Kaiser Chiefs who kicked off the event with ‘I Predict A Riot’, Prince performed ‘Purple Rain’ and ‘Lets Go Crazy’. Coldplay, James Blunt and Kelly Clarkson also performed. Also on stage performing were KT Tunstall, Jack Johnson, The Gorillaz and Outstanding Contribution To Music Winner Paul Weller. Kanye West performed with a host a partially dressed woman after Brit organisers finally gave in at the last minute and agreed to let them wear G-Strings, they originally ordered the girls to where bigger knickers. Chris Evans put his foot in it when he asked Boy George if he really called the police to his house that was full of drugs. The comments were not received well by the star. The triple award winning Kaiser Chiefs had two of their acceptance speeches gate-crashed. First by an unknown person who managed to bypass security clasping a CD rack and secondly by comedian Vic Reeves.
The Kaiser Cheifs picked up awards for Best Group, Rock Act and Live Act. Coldplay won two awards for Best Album and Single and James Blunt won two awards for Best Male Solo and Pop Act. GRAMMYS 2006
The Grammy Awards took place in Los Angeles on Wednesday night and the event was opened in amazing style. Madonna collaborated with The Gorillaz on a one-off performance. The Gorillaz has just finished performing ‘Feel Good’ which was seamlessly mixed into Madonna’s performance of ‘Hung Up’. She even danced with the animated band before her own glittering performance. Winners included Green Day, Mariah Carey, Missy Elliot, The White Stripes, Stevie Wonder, Maroon 5, and The Gorillaz. Kelly Clarkson, The Chemical Brothers and John Legend all won two awards and Kanye West picked up three awards. CHARLOTTE SPEAKS HER MIND (FOR A CHANGE)
Charlotte Church has blasted her fellow Brit nominated artists. The Sun newspaper said that Charlotte has said Shayne Ward's record company "give him cack to sing". She also said Coldplay are "depressing" and Craig David has "gone a bit middle of the road". Talking about The Arctic Monkeys she said "I wouldn't know if I fell over them" and Dizzee Rascal "sounds like a 12-year-old boy on the brink of puberty". McFLY SPLIT RUMOURS
McFly fans were left distraught after rumours in The Sun newspaper that the band maybe about to split. The article stated that the lead singer Danny Jones has been asked to leave the band to go solo. Similar band ‘Busted’ ended in the same way, just over a year ago, when Charlie joined a new band. The Sun alleges that Danny has begged his record company to let him have the summer off to do some song writing and the rest of the band are worried he won’t return if he is allowed time off. Music Mania has done some investigating and we have found a statement from Danny on the official McFly website where he says ”I’m really upset by this rumour. No way am I giving up my dream job. I’ve got McFly in my blood and I’ll be in McFly as long as the fans want us.”

ARCTIC MONKEYS SKINT
The Arctic Monkeys maybe the countries biggest new comers but they have yet to see any money coming their way. They have so far have had two number one singles and last week their debut album became the fastest selling album on record. But the band says that they are as hard-up as they were when they were students. Royalties can take up to a year to filter through so the band has to live on £900 a month that is given to them by their record company.

The debut album from indie band Arctic Monkeys is officially the fastest-selling album in UK chart history. 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not' sold more than 360,000 copies in it's first week of release. The Sheffield band's album outsold the rest of the album top 20 combined.

MONKEYS MANIA
The most talked about group this week have been the Arctic Monkeys. Their debut album ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ was released on Monday and was flying off the shelves and sold over 60,000 copies on it’s first day of release. By close of play on Friday the album looked set to become the fastest-selling album ever, closing in on the record set by Hear’say with their first album in 2001. Meanwhile the press was reporting on a fifth member of the band. Glyn Jones was fired from the band before they became famous. The Arctic Monkeys found fame last year through word of mouth alone on the internet and had their first number one single at the end of 2005. Their second single was number one last Sunday. The band have sensationally turned down an offer to perform at next month’s Brit Awards because they think it will make them look uncool.

Prince is in talks with the Brit Award organisers about performing at the awards. They would like him to duet with the Pussycat Dolls. Katie Melua will not be at the bash even though she has been nominated for two awards, she said she has something planned already. The music stars in the Celebrity Big Brother house have been causing a stir this week as Pete Burns’ so called Gorilla coat was taken by the police to be analysed. Pete could have faced years in prison if it was gorilla skin but police have concluded it is made from black and white colombus monkeys. These monkeys are also endangered and the matter has now been referred to the Crown Prosecution Service. It has also been revealed that Pete’s number one hit with Dead Or Alive.
