Top 40 Changes To Come
The Top 40 is facing a shake-up as chart bosses consider incorporating songs from music streaming sites. Offering free, legal access to millions of tunes, online jukebox services like We7 and Spotify have taken off in 2009. Users can listen to tracks without paying to own them, as they have had to with vinyl, tapes, CDs and downloads. The Official UK Charts Company said the Top 40 was "bound to" incorporate songs from streaming services at some point, but not for at least another 12 months.  The chart has always been based purely on sales, with each individual purchase, whatever the format, treated equally. But the streaming and subscription services may soon become too popular to ignore.

Madonna Adoption Appeal Successful
Madonna has won her appeal to adopt a second child from Malawi, a high court has ruled. The star was appealing against an earlier decision in April that she could not adopt Chifundo "Mercy" James, aged four. Judge Esmie Chondo ruled out the adoption saying prospective parents had to be resident in Malawi for 18 months. The rule was waived in 2006 when Madonna adopted a boy, David, from the southern African state. Mercy has been living in an orphanage since her 18-year-old mother died shortly after giving birth. The 50-year-old entertainer also has two biological children, Lourdes, 12, and Rocco, aged eight. The star is said to be delighted by the success of the appeal.

Madonna's Adoption Bid Fails
A Malawian court has ruled that Madonna has failed in her bid to adopt a second child from the country. "I must decline to grant the application for the adoption of the infant," the judge said after a closed-door hearing on Friday. Madonna's application was rejected because of a requirement that prospective parents be resident in the southern African state for 18 to 24 months. The rule was waived in 2006 when Madonna was allowed to take her adopted son, David Banda, to London before his adoption was finalised in 2008. The judge also said that if they did allow the rules to be changed for Madonna the courts "could actually facilitate trafficking of children by some unscrupulous individuals." Madonna’s lawyer said she would lodge an appeal.
